About SelfHostedApp

SelfHostedApp is a collection of practical guides, tutorials, and opinions about self-hosting. I believe that taking control of your digital infrastructure is one of the most empowering things you can do, and I write here about the things I have actually broken and fixed.

What I Cover

  • Beginner guides — Getting started with Docker, Linux, and servers
  • Service tutorials — Step-by-step setup for popular self-hosted software
  • Infrastructure — Networking, security, backups, monitoring
  • Opinion pieces — Why self-hosting matters for privacy and ownership

What I'm Running Right Now

Everything on this site is tested against a real homelab before I publish. The current setup is a refurbished Intel i3 8th gen Mini ITX box with 32GB of RAM, running twenty-plus Docker containers behind Caddy and a Cloudflare Tunnel. The same techniques work on a Raspberry Pi, a spare laptop, or a cheap VPS.

Active services include Nextcloud, Vaultwarden, Jellyfin, Immich, BookStack, Uptime Kuma, Home Assistant, and Pi-hole. The full list rotates, but the philosophy does not: small, boring, well-understood services that I could rebuild from a backup in a weekend.

Philosophy

I am not anti-cloud. I am pro-ownership. Every service you self-host is a service you truly control — your data, your rules, your infrastructure.

Monetization

This site may include affiliate links for products and services I actually use and recommend. I will always disclose them clearly. My recommendations are based on real experience, not commissions.
